If you’ve applied for credit recently, your potential creditor may have used a company called SageStream. This relatively new credit reporting agency is a smaller, but very influential, counterpart to the big 3 credit agencies.
Unfortunately, SageStream’s influence far outweighs its size. It can be an important deciding factor in whether or not a creditor grants you credit. Thus, it’s important to get a copy of your SageStream report, just like you would with Experian, Equifax, and Trans Union.
Getting Your SageStream Report
SageStream’s instructions on getting a copy of your credit file seem fairly straightforward, although a bit demanding. According to their website, there is a two-step process to getting your file.
- Step One: A written request with signature that includes the following information: First name, middle name, last name, suffix (if applicable). Current address including ZIP code and current phone number with area code. Social Security number. Date of birth (month, date and year).
You will also have to jump through a few hoops to prove that you really are who you say your are.
- Step Two: Copies of at least two of the verification documents listed below that substantiate the personal information that you provide as listed in Step 1: Current state-issued driver’s license or other current Government issued identification (such as a passport). Recent cable, utility or phone statement, produced 60 days ago or less. Social Security card. Birth certificate. U.S. passport picture page. Alien registration card. Voided personal check with your current preprinted address.
SageStream’s Report Might Be Vastly Different
Don’t make the assumption that SageStream will have the same information on you as the other 3 major agencies do. There have been many reports that their credit files are vastly different than what consumers might expect.
It’s also important to remember that smaller credit reporting agencies are battling for market share. It is in their best interests to offer creditors information on you that the other agencies might not have.
Take a few moments today to get a copy of your SageStream credit report. You’ll be glad you did. ♦
